It appears an elected representative here in town was able to somehow purchase a home several months ago, here in Epping, from a home builder/developer at a substantial discount then what neighbors paid for very similar homes. How much less then the neighbors? Why is this even something that we should be concerned with or discussing? Well the purchase price was just under $162.87 per sq. foot as opposed to nearby neighbors that paid considerably more. For example, two nearby neighbors paid on average, $300.22 per sq. foot ($530,500). The property purchased by our elected representative was reportedly acquired, according to one set of online records, for $485,900 but shows on the website of Vision Appraisals as having been purchased for close to half that amount...at $243,000.
The primary reason this matter is being presented is a resident here in town expressed the following: "I Just find it extremely strange that" the purchase "price is half of what everyone else has paid...". "I do not know the reason for this". "Why did 'they' pay half of what others did for a similar unit? "...it seems a little suspicious".
Yes, being an elected representative here in town and somehow being able to purchase a home from a builder/developer...for about half-price does seem to raise questions to the how and why.
We'll continue researching in to the public records of our elected representative and those of the builder/developer, whom the home was purchased from, and share what we can with those here in Epping. Possibly there is a legitimate explanation but from the outside looking in, for an elected representative here in Town, who may have been involved with casting votes in favor of the developer (who has been building homes, etc. here in Epping for years) there's questions that should be asked and answered.
